Kate Young is one of Scotland's most innovative contemporary composers and folk musicians. Blending voice and fiddle, she creates unique soundscapes in a magical world of flowers, healing herbs, fairy tales and stories from her native Scotland, but also from various adventures around Europe. Among her many accolades, she received the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Award for composers in 2018.
Sofia Högstadius is a violinist with roots in Umeå and a heart in folk music in Bulgaria. As a violinist, she can be seen in many different contexts such as in the virtuoso Scandi-Balkan folk-punk band Trio Katastrofa, the left-wing feminist swing collective Cats and Dinosaurs or in a duo with Bulgarian tambura player Vladimir Vladimirov, as well as with the Kate Young quintet.
In this concert, Kate and Sofia collaborate with Umeå's own brilliant house organist Lisa Oscarsson to create a unique concert for Umefolk's visitors based on Kate's music. It will be a performance to remember for years to come!
